I was all set to write Haley a check when she struggled to answer the Civil War question. I'm not sure why that question was asked during a campaign, but it should have been so easy to answer. If Haley can tell us why she should be president, I would welcome her. I can't bear the thought of Trump being president. I will vote for Biden if Trump is the GOP nominee and continue to vote Democrat until the GOP reforms itself.

President Haley would sign a national abortion ban if Republicans managed to get one to her desk, so she’s no better than any other GOP candidate on that critical issue, other than she’s more skilled at noncommittal weasel doublespeak.

Yeah but...is Haley ready to take the kill shot? I've seen some compelling reports that despite running for president, her determination seems to peter out when comes to aiming her gun and shooting the big elephant between the eyes. She seems to have a problem offending people, which in part accounts for her seemingly inexplicable response about slavery, and beating Trump means offending a large part of the Republican base. She has to be the kind of person who is willing to horrify his devoted followers, but then stand over his dead body and shout "he's history, follow me!" That takes a certain amount of nerve, and a lot of people are questioning whether she has it.

I agree. She would have to step up and challenge him for Alpha status, but instead she said she’d pardon him. There can be only one.

To me she seems like a rank opportunist who has no real desire to beat Trump. She appears to want the VP slot. She has made nothing but the most tentative "criticisms" of the former President and has flagrantly sucked up to him on more than one occasion. And finally, while I did vote for Biden because he wasn't Trump, I have to say I think he's done an amazing job. He's passed plenty of significant legislation, gotten the country back on its feet, and shown pretty incredible foreign policy leadership. His age doesn't bother me.

This is 100 times closer to reality than any of the ridiculous, delusional, and clearly biased claims in this article. It would take an average objective reader about 30 seconds to refute most of them.

It seems even highly regarded academics aren’t immune from tribal based reality distortions, cherry picked data or confirmation bias.

I’m so grateful that you decided to write this so I didn’t feel as if I was the only one who felt this way. For about two minutes after reading the article, I wondered if I might possibly have gone mad.

The problem with Haley is precisely that she is more likely to beat Biden than Trump is. Her recent difficulty listing slavery as a cause of the Civil War has her vying with Kamala Harris for looking like a Saturday Night Live parody of a politician.

Why would I want someone who has promised to pardon the organizer of the US's first coup attempt? That would mean we'd be right back here in 2028 looking at a Trump second term.

Will she also pardon the January 6th insurgents and thus provide Trump with a ready-made paramilitary group?

Will she simply drop out and accept the role of Trump's running mate?

The only sane choice in the Republican primaries right now is Christie. I don't care what his chances are. This is no time to be casting pathetic "stategic" votes based on media and polling BS. Vote your conscience for a change, and maybe we'll start having change that matters.

Well Christie has dropped out so the primary is just Trump and two spineless hypocrites trying very hard not to offend Trump or his base.

Fortunately, the people most likely to vote in a Republican primary are the kinds of people who like to nominate brown women (as long as they pretend really hard to look and act white) in order to prove that they aren’t really as racist and sexist as people think but also the kinds of people who will never actually elect a brown woman because they are in fact about as racist and sexist as people think.

This entire primary from the campaigns to the debates to the town halls have just been a huge waste of time and money. A well orchestrated farce put on by the RNC, paid for by out-of-touch donors encouraged by even more out-of-touch academics and think tanks and encouraged by easily flattered politicos by consultants who wanted money for that second vacation home. It was entertaining while it lasted but I’m out of popcorn and forks to give. Time to coronate Trump and get started with the actual election so we can attempt to save this country from his dictatorial insanity or start planning our exit strategies. I’m currently researching New Zealand.

Yep, I sure jinxed that one. I should've remembered the iron law that any candidate I like has no chance (Gary Johnson!)

I agree with you. Let's end this farce and hope nothing happens to Biden before November. It's awfully thin ice for the Republic to skate over, but the obsolete and corrupt two-party system has painted us into this corner.

I am so tired of voting with one hand while holding my nose with another. The ONLY way I was going to vote for Hillary Clinton was if she ran against some Nazi/Linthead...like Trump. I was hardly a fan of Biden, but there are piles in a pasture I'd vote for before I'd vote for Trump.

Hailey curried favor with Trump early. She indicated she'd pardon him if elected. I find anybody with morals as flexible as hers unfit for ANY office, and so many in the GOP lacked the guts to stand up to Trump. I will vote for her in my primary, BEGRUDGINGLY.

It's so sad that it would appear the best both parties could vomit forth in the last three elections were a Clinton, Trump, and Biden.

Wait, let me get this straight. The majority of Democratic states DO NOT require voter ID for the Federal election, the majority of Republican states DO require voter ID for the Federal election, Biden is in the Supreme Court for violating the 1st amendment and censoring free speech over suppressing the Hunter Biden laptop WHICH ACTUALLY AFFECTED THE ELECTION, but Trump is the threat? How? ???? What does democracy mean to you? An authoritarian "liberal" state? It's time for people's eyes to open up. These are not the Liberals of 50 years ago. This is a different creature altogether. The Democrats are about as fascist as they get. They are quite literally a private / government relationship that has left behind the free markets.

The independent candidates should be mentioned also, especially since voters don't want a rematch of Biden vs. Trump.

What are your thoughts on some of those candidates, if you don't mind me asking?

How exactly is Biden killing America?

Expand full comment

Well, he shut down and destroyed the American economy, has increased inflation to record numbers, he censored the free speech of the country and is in the Supreme Court for violating the 1st amendment, he lied about the Hunter Biden laptop, affecting the election, he suppressed truths about the pandemic and pushed lies and is likely involved corruption in the Ukraine. He also ignored the Abraham Accords which Saudi Arabia was willing to build on to create a Palestinian state and Biden through that away, so Biden has started two world wars in his term. Did you want to ask that question again? It's time to be a bit more objective.
