Great article. I wish Musk was an actual free speech champion but that is clearly not the case. You could also have included more information about the way he has spoken glowingly of China, the most speech-suppressing nation in the world, and how often he has helped to supress speech at their behest. Obviously so that he can sell more cars in their country.

We can see that the left is not the free speech champions they used to be, the ACLU has fallen a long way. But there is no conservative version out there protecting the rights of trans people or Muslims. All the whining about speech suppression on the right is hypocritical. They just don't like not being the ones doing the censoring for once.

This is a very generalized complaint but I don't see that this is happening in any specific way at the Congressional or presidential level. What I DO see is that Democrats are primarying extreme candidates such as Jamal Bowman and replacing them with more centrist people. Re climate change and COVID, instead of denying that they exist and are dangerous, how about coming up with solutions that are more on the conservative end of things? The evidence clearly points to climate change as happening. Long-term changes, more wildfires, rising sea levels, disappearing glaciers etc. My problem with what is currently happening on the right is the prevalence of conspiracy theories that sound good but have low standards of proof. Instead, they create a true 'us vs them' with the 'us's being supposed "real americans" and the 'them' being those sinister shadowy [communist, cosmopolitan, 'woke' etc etc etc] forces that control everything. Sorry, it's not one big conspiracy.

The intellectual dishonesty here is peak Biden Era.

No mention of the #TwitterFiles.

No mention of the government-industrial censorship complex that has interfered in multiple recent elections (i.e., 51 Intel Officials lying to America about the Biden laptop).

No mention of the fact that no one could duplicate MMFA's "scandalous ad placement".

Just more "MAGA" crap and censorship advocacy. Duly noted.

I'm not the one who shadow-banned the primary author of the so-called Twitter files. That was Musk after Taibbi went off leash and finally mustered up the courage to say something mildly critical about him.

But if you want a lot of very thorough debunking about why the whole exercise was such mendacious spin and full of outright misrepresentations, I recommend Mike Masnick at TechDirt. He's written tons about it and, unlike Musk's hand-picked sock puppets, Mike actually knows what he's talking about. https://www.techdirt.com/tag/twitter-files/

As for ads running next to explicit nazi stuff, that's trivially easy to find and anybody can replicate it. I did! Here's a thread full of screenshots I took myself. https://bsky.app/profile/andycraig.bsky.social/post/3kej2cnm4k22t And here's another example from somebody else. https://bsky.app/profile/numb.comfortab.ly/post/3kenziexoak2v There are a ton of these floating around, and you can easily go find more yourself. The idea that MMFA had to resort to some trickery to produce examples like that is absurd.

I appreciate the reply and need to research those links.

I hope, though, you can understand the danger of the Blob in DC controlling all speech.

Which appears to be the direction we're heading.

We have pieces and podcasts coming out on the alleged "censorship-industrial complex" etc. Stay tuned. And we are not the ones advocating censorship. Do read the piece..or at least the headline and subhead :)

The Twitter Files 😂 😂 😂

Expand full comment

It's really simple.

The Biden administration (and the Democrat run house under Trump) suppressed truthful information and pushed untruthful information through social media for political gain, and it significantly affected the narrative, influencing public perception. No amount of contorting and pretzel logic can change that.

The entirety of the Twitter Files allegations occurred during the **Trump** administration.

The country that flubbed the pandemic was China. Everyone was relying on them for information and they lied. No country was successful in handling the public, but the country that handled the pandemic the best is Sweden. And they were ridiculed by Democrats for their handling of it. And they did it with the highest public voluntary compliance of any country in the world. They didn't have to mandate anything and rebounded faster and better than any other country in the world.

As far as the election is concerned, the election was absolutely meddled with. IT just wasn't meddled with in the way the news reported. It was meddled in the way that the Democrats accused Trump of meddling in 2016 - with misinformation and disinformation campaigns. This is indisputable. The Democrats who ran the house suppressed information that could have affected the election outcome, including the Ashley Biden diary story and the Hunter Biden Laptop story, and much of mainstream media colluded to suppress that story. This was well documented by Glen Greenwald.

All I have to do is discredit your 1st point to prove that you don't know what you're talking about.

The US was not first in deaths, they were 14th if you look at deaths / 1MIL population.

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

The Covid discussion MUST be nuanced, and you removed all of your nuance to make a political hit. While it was "Covid" that was the cause of death, the US was high in deaths mainly because they're the most obese nation in the world and are high in co-morbidity in general.

Healthy people generally don't die from Covid. It's the unhealthy people that died from Covid.

Additionally, Covid statistics were fudged because people who died "with Covid" but didn't die "from Covid" were listed as Covid deaths. This means, if someone fell out of a tree but had contracted Covid, they were listed as a Covid death.

This is an immutable fact that must be considered in the discussion. If in fact, the truth matters at all to you.

Shunning and Shaming are a part of the moral system. One hundred years ago women were shamed for "illegitimate" babies. Nowadays men are more likely to be shamed for non-consensual sexual advances. People used to be shamed for evidence of homosexual behaviour. We associate racism and white supremacy with the history of slavery and colonialism, and past incidents of segregation, lynching, genocide and "ethnic cleansing" - a very good reason for shaming and shunning people who utter racist threats. Obviously then, people are shunned and shamed for reasons that change over time. Perhaps these reasons change because we've learned over time that certain attitudes and behaviours cause great harm to society: eg Hitler and Nazi Germany, Serbian agression against Kosovo in the nineties, Rwanda, Jim Crow South, etc. People like Musk and Trump are sore losers who resent being censured for their racist attitudes. They are trying to turn the clock back. No coincidence that this movement against so-called "Wokism" is strongest in the American South.

"The definition of woke is the making sacred, historically marginalized race, gender and sexual identity groups." People like Trump and Musk aren't sore losers. They're representative of a greater group of people (ie the majority) that are being shut down and censored in favor of these, smaller sacred groups which can now perform reverse racism and bigotry with impunity. This is what is happening in plain language, in plain sight. Anyone who has raised children properly knows that two wrongs don't make a right, and yet the woke movement would have you believe that wrongs to make a right are the only way forward. There was no greater free speech movement in the last 50 years than Musk's purchase of Twitter and the opening of the conversation about the pandemic, which Left governments (around the world, in a concerted effort may I add) had shut down against the will of free people. Had this not happened, we'd still be in the dark ages, Fauci would not be questioned about his lies and none of the injustices about the pandemic would have been publicly exposed or investigated as they are now.

Censored??? Funny how the I know all about Musk's the far right wing nut machine's thoughts on all of this stuff. And yet half the population thinks we're at a record high unemployment rate or that 2020 election was stolen. Vax 'sceptisism'? Very well-spread. No, Musk and his favorite authoritarians are not being suppressed.

Your first mistake is to shoot the messengers without actually firing a single shot in the debate. Fail. You should know that not all people who disagree with Marxist, communist agendas "right wing nuts". Some of us just think objectively and not with our politics.

Your second mistake is that either misread or purposefully mis-characterized what I wrote. They are no longer being suppressed because of Musk's purchase of Twitter opening up the public dialogue. Before the purchase of Twitter, public dialogue was absolutely, unequivocally suppressed, especially during the pandemic. Dissenting voices and truths opposing the public narrative were stricken down from public platforms while untruthful information was pushed to the forefront. This is unthinkable, and yet it happened and and we'd never be able to uncover truths or prosecute the people responsible without the free exchange of ideas. Think what you want about Musk or his motives, but if Musk hadn't purchased Twitter and allowed that dialogue we'd still be censored and trapped in a Dark Age.

Free speech is not to allow things you want to hear. It's to allow the things you don't want to hear and most people lost in the far left never think about the consequences of their beliefs, namely that the same suppression of free speech that they are calling for will won day prevent them from defending themselves.

You throw around the term " Marxist, communist agendas" as if it means anything. What exactly are non-Trumpians doing that fits that string of words? I am middle of the road and I respect people like *actual* conservatives such as Liz Cheney. She is more conservative than most MAGA republicans. The ONLY thing that makes her on the outs is that she doesn't worship Trump.

Sadly, it is the tactic of autocratic rulers who oppose an open society such as Orban and Modi to call their opponents communists and Marxists. It’s a tired old trope but clearly resonates with some.

The pitting of the "have nots" against the "haves". The identity politics dividing people. The complete disregard for human nature when trying to fit everyone into predetermined, societal roles. The massive overreach of government. The suppression and/or censorship of anything that opposes the mainstream narrative, accomplished through alignment of mainstream media and government. You really will have to spend some time deep in "the other side" to see the Left for what it's become from the Right's perspective, but it's quite frightening. Despite what everyone is being told, what is actually happening in the last few years, using issues such as the pandemic, Climate Change and "Agent Orange" - all being sold as the new "9/11" these days, has produced anything but an "open society". What we've seen rise is something Orwellian in recent years and the road the Left has paved only ensures more of the same. If you still can't see what 4 years of destruction looks like, I'm not sure anyone will be able to draw a clear enough picture for you. The rest of the world sees it, which is why much of the world's democracies are swinging right in opposition. What was called a conspiracy theory 4 years ago is now a full on conspiracy and the people are pushing back.

Wow. First of all, you didn't respond to my view of Liz Cheney. What's yours? Second of all, that post was just a massive 'us vs them' that essentially demonized half the country on the basis of 'nutpicking' by right-wing radio, youtube and social media. Because everyone to the left of Trump Desantis and MTG must be either a RINO or a super-lib-Commie. You may not like some of the extreme socially liberal stuff, but I'm not into that either. And the majority of Democrats in office are nowhere near the extreme, whereas Republicans in office are justifying lawlessness by their dear leader, pretending there is a religious/culture war. How has your life been diminished by the weird left-wing stuff that your media shovels at you hourly? Counterpoint, the only enemy I have is authoritarianism. Bannon, the Heritage Society openly talk about actively hurting half the country in the service of 'getting back' at them. A hunger for vengeance is what I get from your post. Not the way to go in a country with over 300,000,000 people.

Throughout history, we have been able to solve everything through progress and innovation, not through politics. The key to progress and innovation has always been co-operation. The left side of the brain can't function efficiently without the right side of the brain function as well. It's this way in politics. The Left, which are often comprised of people who are high in creativity are generally good at creating solutions but are terrible at implementing them. The Right are often comprised of people who are very structured and orderly but not good at creating solutions. Because they're structured they're good at implementing them. If you don't have a society where the two sides can function together, we will not be able to problem solve anything. We'll be deadlocked. This is where we've been for some time now. It's time to drop the "Trump derangement syndrome". Everyone that isn't in the far Left cult has been saying for 4 years that Biden is unfit. The Democrat party has been denying he's unfit. Last night proved he was unfit. It's time to come clean and start rebuilding unity in this country and it starts by stopping the lies. I agree with what you said earlier about Statesmanship. It used to be an honourable position. How was that honor lost? With a lack of accountability. Until accountability is brought back it will never be the honorable position it once was.

Setting the standard straight isn't vengeance. The Left has SO obviously weaponized the Justice system against a political opponent that everyone can now see it. The only people who can't see it are wilfully ignorant and in the party (or cult, as it is certainly cult-like behavior to not be able to see the obvious). Going after the people who perpetrated this form of political law-fare to prevent it from happening again isn't vengeance. It's necessary. There is a large disconnect from the media's portrayal of what happened and what actually happened, and the media is so obviously biased that it's no longer possible to ignore. This is the same media that tried to convince the American people that Trump had cognitive impairment 7 years ago and that Biden didn't have any cognitive impairment 4 years ago...when EVERYONE REASONABLE could see he was impaired. The emperor has no clothes and people are finally having the courage to state it openly. THAT is what this election is about. It's a coming of age, an awareness of the Globalist agenda which has seized not only the Left in the US but also the Left in many "democratic" countries around the world. This isn't a US or a Trump phenomenon. It's a human revolution that is occurring in every country around the world and in the US, Trump is the only person capable of defeating this globalist agenda which is why his popularity has soared as people have become more aware of it, and that they have been deceived this entire time by the perpetrators of it.

No.

The left gives the illusion that it wants to save the planet, while in reality is doing the exact opposite. You can't create solutions by imposing limitations, stunting progress and reducing freedom to speak. All innovation comes from LIBERAL freedom. You can't innovate your way out of a problem hamstrung, and Left ideology, which used to be all about Liberation - is now about LIMITING rather than LIBERATING people.

For 1000s of years, it was freedom to move, to innovate, to speak and to entangle ideas that created all of society's progress. The Liberals have reversed all of that, by using subjective reasoning which ALWAYS fails and turns on itself. That's what is happening right now, before our very eyes.

Society is falling apart from it's illusion of "liberal" ideology and the general public now clearly sees it for what it is.

And the main reason they see it so clearly now, is because the Left has lost control of the narrative. You can avoid reality, but you can't avoid the consequences of avoiding reality.

The segregationists and White Supremicists, the Christian Nationalists - all sore losers who resent the fact that it is no longer a foregone conclusion that they will come out on top. The deck was always stacked in their favour, now it's no longer a sure thing. Your definition of "Woke" is off-base. It isn't about the sacred, it is about righting historical wrongs such as slavery, and Jim Crow. For hundreds of years it hasn't been a level playing field, the deck has been stacked in favour of White Christian males. Time for a change!
