Correct. It's important to note that this is not a US only problem. MOST of the Western countries, but especially in Canada, the UK, Australia and New Zealand, all of these governments have managed to quench free speech, silence opposition and even the general populace. It's almost as if some force has caused these countries to work in unison...in concert with each other to cause this unrest. Just look at the arrests happening in the UK over social media posts. That's about as Draconian as you can get, and the Left are all about that sort of behavior.
The Left wants MORE government, MORE control over society, more social reliance and therefore, the Left's ideology is inherently authoritarian, and since the Left has had most of the Legacy media captured for quite some time, along with the persecution of their political opponent (Trump) and the combination of suppression of free speech and the alignment of the media with their political side, they are more fascist than anything the right has done.
You can't see it until you remove the rose colored glasses, but once you see it you can't unsee it.
I heard a GREAT commentary recently on how the Left and the Right differ in practice.
Liberal, egalitarian policies fail miserably, unless they have a secure and safe environment to practice them in, but if you have high crime, porous borders, ar poor economy etc, the last thing the public cares about is what's fair. They're too busy trying trying to survive and stay alive, and this is where the Right excels.
They excel at creating structure, and law and order.
An ideal situation would be the right providing the necessary, stability a society needs to function and then the Left can provide internal governance far more easily within those borders.
But as long as the country is not secure for citizens, equality is much further down in the hierarchy of needs.
You can draw a very similar model for "climate change".
All of these policies to help combat 'climate change' have driven the West into poverty. We've never seen to much disparity in wealth and homelessness like we do today in most major Western countries.
Well, if your general population is struggling to stay alive, they won't give a DAMN about climate change.
You need to stabilize society FIRST and then out of a stable society, build solutions and problem solve secondary problems.
Bret Weinstein's Unity2020 plan, where a Democrat and a Republican run on one ticket would be the most ideal solution. If the Left and Right can't work together, it's always going to be a problem.
I partially agree. I do not think the left, as understood as progressive and not Classic Liberal, can provide effective internal governance as their policies generally aggravate whatever problem they're trying to solve for. Much better to devolve government to the lowest possible level, and utilize free market solutions as the default.
Democracy is mob rule and does not protect your rights. You will only have free speech in a democracy if the mob allows it. Luckily, America is not a democracy, it's a rights-protecting republic. If we can keep it, that is.
But I think the fact that our political scientists don't really understand stuff like this is not good sign.
Overall, unless you're calling for the abolishment of things like the FCC, an unconstitutional and rights-violating organization whose entire purpose is censorship, then you're not really fundamentally opposed to censorship anyway.
Defeating the threat of authoritarianism does *not* require electoral wins. Politics is not about voting.
I think it requires politically literate professionals taking back the mainstream discourse.
I actually think they are using Charlie Kirk’s shooting as a way to justify ramping up their authoritarian agenda. Quell free speech by calling it hate speech and accuse the Democrats of violence against them. It would probably sound evil, but it seems very convenient that this deed was done at a time when their popularity was at an all time low!
The Democrats have used their own plot devices to clamp down on Free Speech.
The people on the Left seem wholly unaware that the majority of Legacy media is Far Left, and that they've been propagandizing for the Left FOR YEARS, and suppressing truths while pushing untruths that favor the Left.
Until people stop looking for a 'bogey man' on the opposite side, and realize that the Left and the Right MUST work with each other to advance society and problem solve, neither side will gain anything but animosity.
They have, and those deserved to be opposed too. But the left's plot devices pale in comparison to what the right/Trump is doing right now. There is no comparison. At this stage, the right is using the left's actions merely as a pretext to justify its violations of rights, not correct the situation. Which is why comments like yours are just part of the problem.
The right is reacting to the Liberals. The Liberals were the ones that went too far, too quickly.
Wide open borders, making the minorities sacred at the expense of the majorities, forcing expensive energy instead of using the cheap energy resources each country has (forcing all countries into poverty), censorship regimes, blatantly mislead Covid politics posing as science, and even manipulating some laws to make Trump guilty.
And lets not even mention the Russian Hoax, completely fabricated and funded by the Left.
Until there is accountability for these things, nobody will trust the left for generations and yet they want to pretend these things never happened.
And if people are actually paying attention, these things are happening in more than just America. This isn't a "Democrat" movement. They are happening in almost all Western 'Liberal' countries in concert, in unison, as if there's a larger over arcing plan, and each country is implementing them individually in their own respective ways.
And if you look at the reactions to these extreme 'Liberal' but not really Liberal policies, the reaction is the same in every major country dealing with the far Left policies. In each of these countries, the right wants a return to traditional family values, less immigration, more investment in resources making living expenses cheaper, less government and less money in politics.
Constantly painting this as a "Trump" issue does disservice to the fact that the Liberal movement is affecting all countries and creating similar problems in all of these countries.
Sir, I hate to say this, but you are so full of half-baked to totally false rightwing talking points that it is really hard to separate fact from fiction. But you have a story and you are sticking to it. I'm glad you at least read us to get a different perspective. FWIW, I started in on the conserative/libertarian right but quit that side when a malignancy like Trump came along and poisoned the whole party and movement.
All of the things I have written above are well supported and until the Left contends with it's own corruption and deficiencies, they are going nowhere.
And again, this is a movement that is happening across most Western countries and not just America. It's being spearheaded top down by a centralized source, centralizing all of these countries into the same politics and ideologies and being opposed by the rise of the Right in all of those respective countries. Populism is quite literally being fueled by the Left's inability to protect it's own people from simple security issues.
And I am speaking as a lifelong, left of center Liberal who is now being called a right wing extremist for wanted accountability and a political party that is able to find the center again.
Perhaps we should consider that the Trump administration is merely wielding an ax that others before him sharpened.

Fully agree. The left can never survive in a truly egalitarian society. To them power for them and subservience for the rest is their endgame.

Powerful and brilliant. THANKS for this.
"War on Free Speech = War on Democracy"
Not sure how you got that.
Democracy is mob rule and does not protect your rights. You will only have free speech in a democracy if the mob allows it. Luckily, America is not a democracy, it's a rights-protecting republic. If we can keep it, that is.
