As someone from the UK this reminds me a lot of Brexit, a country deliberately diminishing itself. Only this seems much worse, if Brexit was my country shooting itself in the foot the actions of the Trump administration, from domestic issues to foreign interventions and threats regarding Greenland, is like America committing suicide

Great column (but depressing). Question: with the exodus of so many attorneys in areas such as federal programs, will the strain on the reduced workforce erode the Department's ability to defend cases and protect existing programs effectively? For example, I imagine the number of FOIA suits will likely increase with fewer attorneys to effectively respond.

It remains to be seen. But drug prosecutions, which for Fentanyl-Trump ought to be a high priority, are at a 30 year low. So I would guess yes …

Perhaps someone should suggest to Trump's Elite Advisors that "decimation" of his Administration and Cabinet at/of the highest ranks would be a novel and effective means of imposing much needed "discipline". Perhaps Lurid Loomer will become the Grand Inquisitor, subject to the supervision and control of Stephen Miller. ref. Executive Order 14215, February 18, 2025 Section 7. Decimation Discipline has a nice ring to it.

I saw academic observer-from-Wisconsin of the FCPA, Mike Koehler, arguing on LinkedIn that people saying the FCPA isn’t really being enforced are not as smart or informed as he is.
