The think the objection is less to the birth citizen, and more to the fact that the birth citizen enables the child to sponsor their parents for immigration.
It is, in some ways, a dodge that lets people get around otherwise difficult immigration laws. Not that the "anchor baby" technique is so easy- you have to wait 18 years before the kid can sponsor their parents. But often if an illegal immigrant has minor children who are US citizens that can be an argument against deportation. The baby isn't just a potential ticket to permanent residency in 18 years, but a temporary shield again deportation today.
I do think there are probably ways to make this less of an issue, such as enacting rules that make it impossible for such children to sponsor their parents. I.e. You could make it a rule that says that having a child in the US while in a non-immigrant state is a visa violation that disqualifies them from being sponsored by that child for immigration purposes.
We are a nation made up by immigrants and their ancestors. That even includes Native Americans whose ancestors migrated from Asia. The distinctions that some make even extend to those whose ancestors came more recently. Sheer nonsense.
