Former POTUS Trump's supporters will not "question" the 2024 election results.
Mr. Trump's supporters will not "accept" the election results, unless Trump wins.
The only outcome 20% of voters will accept is Trump 45. They do not care if the election is fair, foreign governments interfere or algorithms program voters like robots.
Sadly, the former president and many of his supporters have already said, a Trump win is fair, a loss is ‘rigged.’ For many, the distrust of the possibility of a Harris win is rooted deeply and with certainty.
That there will probably be a violent reaction to a Harris win is a given. But I believe since Trump will not have a physical presence in the White House and DC generally the violence will be dispersed across many states in smaller, less focused and more manageable groups. I see the swing states that might give Harris the win as a focus of challenges and potential violence.
Once he loses I see state Republican officials less inclined to take a phone call from the Ex-POTUS than they were when he called them in 2020 while he was in office. Also Trump himself should also understand that the Supreme Court is highly unlikely to extend any immunity they have created for him this year to extend to the election of 2024 and therefore no protection from future prosecution.
In fact anything he does to encourage his followers to act he comes closer to potential prosecution under a whole slew of actual federal statutes.
The real test will be what Republicans do if they have majorities in the House and Senate. Do they want to let it all slide by since Trump will be not running in 2028? Or will they choose to participate in a shadow government operating out of Mar-a-Lago where Trump, out of power, will still call the shots to assure the survival of MAGA for the next 4 years? Trump has already commanded that the Senate eliminate the filibuster. McConnell didn't follow through but what will his MAGAfied successor do?
If Harris wins we can be confident that the House will continue its persecution of everything she does and anyone who is in the administration. She will be forced to govern entirely by veto and executive orders which the SCOTUS will invariably, and often reasonably, unconstitutional.
Ironically, for the short term peace of the nation, it would be best for Trump to win the popular vote and not just through Electoral College nullification.
The research presented here is simply a confirmation of everything we already suspected. There is nothing conservative about these people they are just reactionaries. One of the pillars of conservatism is a suspicion of things that are merely popular or tending to group think and the hive mind.
We "out-group" conservatives actually question mob tendencies even when they are coming from the right side of the political spectrum. Perhaps more so because they are nihilistically corrupting true conservative principles.
Let them try - suspect that they will suffer a hard stop and the consequences will be their own fault - I no longer have patience for the irrational and violent whining of people who don’t get America and believe they are better than the rest of us - no you’re not.
The rule of law is the heart of our democracy and while populists of both parties denigrate it - it will bite them in the ass.
"One interesting finding, given that populism is typically a 'male' phenomenon, was that Trump populists had roughly the same gender breakdown as the rest of the population: 51% female and 49% male."
"Gender" breakdown? No, it's a breakdown by sex. Male and female are sexes.
Also: The piece says that the survey took into account "sexual identity (transgender people and gays and lesbians) . . ." This misses the essence of the trans phenomenon and the conflates the difference between gays and trans people.
The organizing principles behind the trans movement are termed gender identity ideology. By and large, trans people say they "identify as" belonging to a particular "gender." That is one reason why the term "transsexual" has fallen out of favor.
Gender is not biological sex. Far from it, gender is an ineluctable inner feeling about whether and to what extent one is masculine or feminine. While there are only two sexes, there are myriad genders: agender, demiboy, demigirl, non-binary, gender fluid, transgender female, gender queer, transgender male and two spirit, to list the choices recognized by one of my health care organizations.
Gender exists separately from, and may not correspond with, a person's biological sex. Moreover, a gender is fluid, which means that a person might identify as different genders over a lifetime. Judith Butler, the philosopher and birthing person of gender identity ideology has gone so far as to claim that biological sex itself is a social construct.
Most gays and lesbians, on the other hand, believe that there are only two biological sexes, that sex is not changeable, and that binaries such as male-female are real and valid. This is especially true among older people, while younger gays may be influenced by queer theory and be sympathetic to gender identity ideology.
Most gay men and lesbians do not think of themselves as having a gender identity, nor would most gays or lesbians say they "identify as" gay or lesbian, respectively. Instead, they would say that they ARE male or female, respectively.
The better framing is "sexual orientation and gender identity" or "members of sexual and gender minorities."
That they results won’t be trusted if Harris wins is a certainty; political violence is not. For one, DC will be much more secure this go round. Sadly, it has to be. But how Trump would respond to a loss would also be critical and for all the lack of character and lack of hope many of us may have in him, he may not promote violence and may even discourage it. Maybe. A boy can hope.
"but what if Donald changes his mind" is no longer enough for me. I will believe it if I see it, but hoping for that doesn't make sense for me at this stage. I think he loves disappointing the hopes of people who know he could do better more than he loves himself.

You mean like when the Left questions a close win?

I'm no prophet... but this one's a "given". MAGA is HOPING for that.
And they are probably wishing some body WOULD end Trump's suffering, so they will have a 'fer sure" martyr. They know they need a competent leader.
