This leftist analysis is weak. Ignoring that islamist violence has skyrocketed since 2015 as well as antisemitism imported from the global south. Before this influx of imigrants mainly from the arab world the AfD was literally dead.
I think that the issue of Islam aligned violence is a shadow avoided by most parties that also AfD is taking advantage of.
Rather than promoting an articulate public conversation about where within the Muslim community specifically danger is coming from, most parties, particularly on the left, were quickest to respond to accurate description of the CDC Berlin attacker as Islamist with calls to "not politicize" the tragedy, deflecting from the topic. Thus dysfunctionally gifts the conversation to the AfD. (I think it also stands against long term goals of integration as it promotes continued ignorance about Muslims and those with Islam-related immigration backgrounds. It would be interesting to see what fraction of Germans could even tell you the differences between Shia and Sunni, despite the fact that 6.7 million Germans are Muslim or from Islamic immigration backgrounds.)
I just did a deep data dive into ideological crimes and violence in Germany, and i think that the statistics i talk about in my blog are a good starting point for conversation. A few points...
-identified ideological killing is actually only 0.5% of killing in Germany
-Yes, the majority of ideological physical violence in Germany is right wing...
- but Islam aligned ideological killing is on par with right wing killing in absolute numbers...
- and on a per capita basis, Islam aligned killing is far larger than right aligned.
- 2/3 of anti-LGBTQ violence is right aligned, 1/3 Islam aligned...
- ... but anti-LGBTQ violence is about 1/8 the scale of anti-foreigner/racist/xenophobic - all right aligned.

Of course, it doesn't help to have the USA in many ways leading this far right parade. Nativism combined w far-right nationalism where the state is everything and leading to fascism is a road traveled before. The brutality of it is well-known.
Of course, fools will trivialize this all bcuz many lessons are forgotten, like 6 million Jews killed in the Holocaust. No one knows how this all turns out, but it could definitely lead to extremism, which we cannot allow.
There would be no counter protest if the Left had not become blatant and obscene with it's ideologies. Pushing trans ideology on the general public, forcing immigration that has ruined the economies, cultures and cohesion of every Western society and just in general making sacred the needs of the few while trampling the needs of the many.
The solution is for the Left to analyze itself, not to analyze the Right.
And so far, the results have been laughable. The Left has lost the plot.
Undoubtedly there's been an understandable reaction to the Left (and I'm not near them politically). But you're letting far right groups off too easily. Just remind yourself of George Santayana: "Those who cannot remember [or conveniently dismiss] the past are condemned to repeat it." We're talking genocide on a mass scale.
This analysis is way off the mark. Sorry. The AfD has emerged because the various other German parties lead by Merkel and co. allowed for under-controlled immigration from countries who simply don’t want to integrate with the west.
The lurch to embrace cultural relativism is in fact illiberal. There are many good people from bad countries that want a better life. That is obvious. But there are also many bad people from bad countries. And I’m writing like a kindergartener on purpose.
Bad countries are those who do not value equality of humanity, who throw gay men like myself off of buildings, who stone and execute women without opportunity of a trial and who round up and massacred tens of thousands Yazidi women because they worship a peacock (the image of their god) which Muslims believe is Lucifer.
So is a liberal west expected to accept in full, a people who are programmed to believe that women are less than men, gays are an abomination, and the western economic system is immoral?
Thats what’s happened for 30 years. The Turkish migration in the 60’s and 70’s hails back to far more secular times; today’s mass push of people from countries that hate our values is not secular.
If women aren’t to be treated equally and gay people can’t live without the threat of persecution in their own home country, are you really advocating liberal democracy?
Until and if and only when the west properly controls for integration and ensuring equality of all, parties like the AfD will continue to grow. The clock is ticking.

But it strikes one as a bit absurd to have a banning procedure in place for just this eventuality, only to lose the spine to enforce it because “this might make them stronger.” If they are this open about their policies, the implantation once in power will be much much worse, at least if the current American example (and countless other examples, including of course Germany’s history) is any guide.
Mass immigration and neoliberal austerity economics aren’t ’freedom.’ Freedom is being secure in your own homeland without worrying about your daughter getting gang raped by third world savages.
Democratic socialism has the illusion of freedom but is in fact the worst type of bondage.
The rise of these sorts of groups stems DIRECTLY from the overreach of the Left and their inability to protect and provide for the majority because they are distracted by a minority.
