Matt Yglesias is not exactly optimistic about peace between Israel and the Palestinians. As he pointed out in the article of his to which you linked, the third step in his "joke" peace plan (but really more of a "ha ha only serious" plan) is, "Palestinians and Israelis all develop different, more reasonable preferences from the ones they actually have." Unfortunately, all the other peace plans so far seem to hinge on this critical step.
