The proper functioning of all elections is very important, most desirable, and remains a goal toward which we should all strive, in any system, not just in a democracy or a "democracy" (see 2023 USA!).
(Of course, months- or years-long scampaigns are very much part of election. Which is why most thinking people judge the most recent elections for the POTUS to have been polluted in the most insidious manner. Within inches of the border of legality, but way outside the limits of morality.)
Othewise, elections become nothing more than "elections": See any and all "communist" --- actually state-Fascist --- systems past, present and future.
