I think the key differentiators here (as though there needed to be any, given the strength of the indictment) are 1) the national security implications of Menendez' quid pro quo, and 2) the overwhelming rejection of Menendez by his constituents.
Schumer has poor political instincts, but even he should be able to comprehend the need for coherent anti-corruption messaging in 2024.
