Well, there are benefits to being a capital city and there are several disadvantages. Ottawa has known nothing but generous benefits for decades, the seized wealth of Canadians lavished on its residents.
Along comes one of the disadvantages, a group of people grievously harmed by the incessant Covid demands and restrictions on their ability to earn a living. Too bad they aren't public workers or politicians that haven't endured any loss of income and actually enjoyed bigger paycheques.
2 years of Covid tyranny that a vocal group finally smashed a truck through and brought to a swift end.
The tyranny was never going to end. We had witnessed one extension after another, impositions greater than the last, destruction of lives, businesses, and production. And then a spontaneous eruption of anger and numbers inverted the polls and sent the politicians into disorderly retreat.
Vaccine mandates - gone. Vaccine passports- gone. Mask mandates - gone. School closures - gone. Abolition of sports - gone. Etc.
That's some mighty effective horn. And now the Federal political class has responded with a greater tyranny. The state of the Canadian banking is now precarious. It doesn't take much to start a bank run and, once underway, is impossible to stop. And do expect to see the western separatist movement soar the next while. All because of the discomfort of a few horns.

Published reports show that US dollars contributed significantly to this absurd 'protest', and Americans were present. The stated aims of the protesters (which started with propaganda from Romania and other foreign actors) was the overthrow if the current Trudeau government. More than 85% of Canadian truckers are vaccinated, and there actions weren't solidarity against unfair working conditions. Even if this started as as a foreign propaganda effort which inflamed frustrations of a small minority of Canadian truckers opposing vaccine mandates, disrupting neighborhoods for weeks, disrupting international commerce, and calling for the overthrow of a government is anarchy.
Very little of the money raised for the convoy got through. Most of it had been raised prior to departure from the resources of those directly involved.
Several US Truckers were involved because they are equally affected by the same restrictions. It's a global economy. But their participation was in response to the assembly of the Freedom Convoy.
The stated purpose of the convoy was the removal of all Federal Covid restrictions and regulations. How would you know otherwise?
If Trudeau's so called Governments limps through intact, it'll be a miracle. His own MPs are deserting him. But the source of the ills may be directly attributed to his own stupid actions. The Premiers woke up from their interminable Covidiocracy, but not Trudeau and his gang.

Angus Reid uses an online panel, pulling a sample from which is one way to try to correct the problems with, for example, phone polling. I decided to go with Angus Reid because at the beginning of the protest they conducted another survey that found that 54% of Canadians think it's time to "End restrictons and let people self-isolate if they're at risk", https://angusreid.org/omicron-incidence-restrictions/ This at least suggests to me that the Angus Reid Forum is not pursuing a specific narrative about pandemic restrictions.
I can imagine thinking that Justin Trudeau has no role to play in egging on populists but of course he does. His responses to this protest have absolutely inflamed both sides of the divide and reinforced the stalemate in which we find ourselves. HIs invocation of the Emergencies Act would be inexcusable even if it hadn't escalated this conflict further. And of course, though it shouldn't be a partisan issue, many people on the left bear responsibility for denying the costs of pandemic restrictions, as well as failing to see the humanity in the protesters--I suspect both lie behind their swing in support for the Emergencies Act, for which they also deserve blame. It's certainly not all of the left, any more than everyone on the right bears the blame for the protests and the information environment in which they exist.

One never trusts polls. Most are not designed to elicit truth. They are designed to elicit a certain response for political or advertising purposes. Where the poll was conducted and its population shall also give a hint as to the outcome. Ottawa has expanded greatly because of this sordid and despotic Covid nightmare, and we have had enough. But not the bureaucrats, especially the public health officials. More control and more misery never contents their insatiable thirst for power and domination.
Just as we are about to discover the truth behind Hillary and the Trump - Russia hoax after 5 years, so we shall find by thorough investigation the truth behind the Covid fraud and all the destruction rained down on the hard working people of this country and their children.
A little resistance and the premiers immediately abandon their rigid and merciless Covid edicts. The people have a good sense when they are confronting a fiction. It may take some time, but we shall know what really went on. It's already starting in the US, and that information shall be very helpful in exposing our public health dictatorship, as well as the rotten courts, cops, jurists, and other institutions that ignored the assault on our basic human rights .
