I don't think Brooks realizes how BoBo he sounds in his claim to "numinous experiences." A desire for an "experience" is no reason to get religion: you can get that at all kinds of ersatz religions, say, kundalini yoga.

The separation of Religion and State was written into the Constitution in order to facilitate Religious Freedom.The minute a State Adopts a Religion is the end of Religious Freedom because their chosen State Religion will always rule from that point.The American Constitution has always seemed a beacon, written by forward thinking men who had seen what Religious power could do to a Country. Men who had fled to America to escape Religious Persecution in their Native Lands. Religion is an individual choice and should remain so.
