I thought deliberately releasing violent criminals into the US was a big deal for GOP? Isn’t that what they say Dems have been doing at the border? That’s what Trump did here.
Trump had a choice either take time and investigate who might be worth pardoning or have the "shock and awe" of 1600 released all at once. He could not have both.
These pardons will live in infamy for a couple of news cycles and then Trump will move on to the next atrocious "judgment" call.
It up to the media (especially local media) and volunteer watch persons to keep track of these people after release and make any further criminal behavior known to the public. Many of these people will be trying to run for public office. Their grudges will be fueled by the King Of Grudges.
How soon can we expect the Ashli Babbitt memorial in the Capitol?
I agree with your sentiment, but not your conclusion.
Today's America, with too many of the under-40 crowd more concerned with personal grievances (left or right) as they go about finding venues for instant-gratification, while taking for granted the "former" government underpinnings, really don't give a flying-fuque that 1,600 felons have been released back into society.
They don't care the the latest shooting in a Nashville high school was perpetrated by a kid who worshiped at the alter of white supremacist Nick Fuentes and some racist celebrity black woman from Nashville (Cheryl someone).
The fiction that "America Is Better Than This" has to be put to rest.
America has been commercialized to the point that media commercials stress being ahead of the crowd (hip), convenient (buy online for product to arrive momentarily), and being moment-by-moment in the know.
That reality is not a good foundation for caring about local, state, and certainly no national community.

"Obscene" is definitely the right word to describe the pardons.
Excellent analysis. Thanks.

Hard Agree, and I assume that the GOP still has not put up the plaque dedicated to the J6 officers as they were instructed to do.
And won't happen until the Dems take back the House in 2027.
Trump made a pardon for individuals who want a civil war in America and are totally against democracy
And I raised an eyebrow when Clinton pardoned a couple of violent Weather Underground people.
