Great to see that ICE's illegal excesses are spawning an expanded resistance to all those who would defy our laws and defile our democratic norms. The time will come when they will regret that.

It breaks my heart that you guys are going through this. I’m in Montreal, and I understand slippery. I’m Venezuelan, and we have gone through waves of repression and “state” policies like the recent one called “knock-knock” (tun tun in Spanish), where unidentified individuals kidnap people due to something as small as posting on social media. In many cases, they get to knock on the door because a loyalist tipped off the regime. I do think we all victims should support each other, despite higher-level politics that can find us at odds. (We are happy the dictator is out, no matter how). I’m very sorry. Might people rediscover the core value of supporting each other. Might your democracy manage to survive. It’s hard to believe again after events like this, and it's tough to value democracy and the rule of law. Sorry for making this a bit about us.

Do you expect the situation to get better in Venezuela? Just curious.

Hector Palacios's avatar

I do, but I fear that I’m falling to yet another false hope. The biggest risk is that Trump and the regime manage to make things work for the oil companies while leaving the regime in power. I wouldn’t risk it I were them as they have lied and betrayed in all negotiations, and lack of rule of law it’s just risky. But we are living in strange times. Things keep moving for both the better and worse like political prisoners freed and new people getting into prison for arbitrary reasons.

🙄. Dude just let them do their jobs. If you don’t like the immigration laws then vote. This is a Republic for goodness sake. Honestly the Minnesota thing is ridiculous. Comply don’t die.

The collateral damage coming from ALL the ICE activities lie solely at the feet of Liberals.

For 4 years Democrats OPENED WIDE the borders to ILLEGAL aliens, forcing the hand of Conservatives to stop it.

For the last year, Democrats have been demonizing ICE and inciting the general public to rise up against them, JUST AS LIBERALS DID THE SAME DURING THE BLM RIOTS.

So Liberals have both created the situation that forced Republicans hands to clean up their mess, and they've created the disastrous situation of pitting the general public against the Government.

Like pawns in chess, Liberals have moved pieces against the law, against ICE and against logic and reason.

Anybody who supports lawlessness including the lawlessness of allowing Illegals in freely, the lawlessness of opposing Federal law enforcement, and finally the lawlessness of the 'defund the police' movement which caused a massive increase in crime across the country should be ashamed of themselves, and they should be investigated and be held accountable.

What is happening lies solely at the feet of Liberals at this point and it's clear as day to anyone who is willing to objectively consider the facts.

The most important question is this:

Why were Democrats not opposed to all previous Democrats like Clinton, Obama or Hilary for removing illegal aliens en masse?

Berny Belvedere's avatar

This is a weak argument. Your thesis that ICE abuses are caused by liberals assumes that those abuses, while bad, are part of a necessary operation—the administration's deportation crackdown—that the country can't do without. But liberals deny the premise that the undocumented immigrants who have come in constitute a problem in the first place. So when you write that, "Democrats opened wide the border to illegal aliens, forcing the hand of conservatives to stop it," there's no such "forcing" going on. Trump wasn't forced to act, as if this was some sort of a natural disaster whose presence is universally held to be disruptive and destructive. We liberals actively approve of immigration, actually. The decision to terrorize immigrants is wholly and entirely on the administration in power, and the people who have enabled and empowered it.

This is also a weak argument, assuming that to be pro immigration means it logically follows that all immigration should be completely unrestrained and unvetted, and there are no possible alternatives in-between that enable communities to absorb immigrants in a manner that works for everyone. Obama had plenty of words to say about immigration and deported undocumented migrants by the hundreds of thousands. The problem with both your arguments is that both sides create false dichotomies that are absurdly extreme. Not every issue has to be an either/or, all-out existential war.

Liberals overplayed their hand with Covid, with the ridiculous BLM nonsense, with the Orwellian policing of language, with the biological males in women's spaces nonsense, and by demanding everyone disbelieve their lying eyes as they watched their "sharp as a tack" president cognitively decline to senility.

Common-sense Americans fired back in the election, saying, "We'll take this idiot, orange felon over your social construct where everyone must conform in your "utopian" hell. Now, conservatives are overplaying their hand in all the ways this article fairly points out. Both sides need to stop the crap. Anyone with common sense is sick of the seesaw, pirate ship ride.

Well stated.

I didn't mean to imply that there wouldn't be any collateral damage by ICE in their efforts, but Democrats have been ESCALATING every single conflict imaginable (as they always do) by encouraging retaliation from the public, rather than de-escalating the situation.

Stupid people, meaning people who think it's a good idea to physically oppose law enforcement, are going to escalate this and law enforcement is not going to back down.

So Democrats are quite literally marching innocent people into harm's way, using them like pawns in chess into a meat grinder…just like they did during the BLM riots.

Those riots would NEVER happen without signaling from the Left encouraging them.

So the Left refuses to do what they expected Trump to do on J6. Interesting logic.

And it's starting to look like Democrats actually allowed Illegals to pour into the country, simply to incite Republicans and Trump and try to force their hand into making a mistake or enraging the public. There has been no single, good excuse messaged by the Left that can justify the porous borders they allowed.

Like, seriously. WHY DID THEY DO IT?

I would bet the house that if Democrats didn't incite the public as they have doing been for a decade now, that we wouldn't have half the collateral damage we have now, or even any of the deaths and if they didn't open the border wide, there would be no ICE activity now. Duh.

And I want to reiterate that which you asked above and maybe someone can answer:

Where was all the criticism on the Left when Obama and Clinton deported MILLIONS?

Why is ICE a problem now but it wasn’t when they did it?

SV's avatar

I'm not sure how you can justify this, but this is the entire crux of the Lefts position...

So if you don't think millions of undocumented people constitute a problem, then maybe you should open your home or community to lots of undocumented people and write an article about your experience.

I'm sure everyone would love to read that one.

BRING ON THE HYPOTHERMIA FREEZE OUT ICE

Yeah, kind of like that time the National guard was deployed to make sure people weren't breaking quarantine during COVID. That was totally not an occupation though, right?

Ernie Moffet's avatar

Forgive the Jan 6 rioters, give them ICE membership and you end up with a copy of the Nazi gestapo. Read your history.

Everyone should be calling their Republican representative and shaming them into rebellion. This is not normal or acceptable.

John Olson's avatar

I have read my history. None of it records that millions of illegal aliens sneaked into Nazi Germany.

Incase you haven’t noticed, your political leaders actions is bringing even more Feds into the area. That would indicate those reactions are counter productive and quite frankly, not to bright!

Steven Scesa's avatar

To where and when are you emigrating?

Steven Scesa's avatar

I'm not emigrating. The USA is the going to again be the sole outlier in the world for people that don't want Marxism of any kind or dressed up pig. The Second Bill of Rights will have an aid soon for people in the US who are fond of Marxism though. Hold on for a few more weeks if you want the help.

Can't those in danger either flee over the border into Canada, or cross thew bridge in to Wisconsin, or is the bridge guarded by ICE?
