Great article! Very uplifting and hopeful that there is a strong leader on the horizon! Thank you for writing this!

Thank you! This is the best explanation of what is really happening in Illinois that I have read! I have been (as a conservative independent who must vote for Democrats as the only option!) less than enthusiastic about Pritzker because, well lets face it, he isn't the prettiest guy in the line up and he has a bit of a charisma deficit. He reminds me of a more authentic Chris Christie.

Nevertheless he does have a populist charm and sense of humor. He does have that quality that has carried Trump very far with some voters--- "He says what he is really thinking."

He's only 60 and he literally has more political experience (and is far more likable) than JD Vance or Ron DeSantis.

Illinois billionaire, not exactly an inspiring visage. Were the billions in largesse not sloshing behind the scenes, he'd likely struggle for a state congressional seat. Probably not the horse to bet upon.

Just what everyone said about Trump in 2015. Without Peter Thiel's billions sloshing around JD Vance wouldn't have been elected dog-catcher. And at least Pritzker (may have) come by his billions with less criminal corruption than the current incumbent of the White House.

Whenever billionaires are running for office I am always suspicious of the criminal corruption that may have gone into the acquisition of their wealth. That would include Pritzker.

Otherwise if their wealth gives them a marketing advantage that is fine. Far better for the oligarchs to run for office themselves rather than just buying up politicians who whore themselves out to the highest bidder.

Chicago PD's aggressive suppression of demonstrations hasn't inspired faith in Pritzker

Governor Pritzker supports the authoritarian gender identity movement including (in the words of Jamie Reed), the "cultish quackery known as gender affirming care." Not something most Americans embrace.

I don't agree with ANY politician 100 percent, but as Lincoln said of another Illinoisian, Grant, "I need him - he FIGHTS!"

Not something MOST Americans even care about as a primary political issue. The anti-trans campaign against the governor elect of Virginia fell flat. Trans-hysteria has a niche constituency.

Maybe everyone should consider what would the situation be if Chicago and Illinois had cooperated years ago getting rid of the criminals and those with FINAL deportation orders. Would ICE even be there now? Hell, would Trump have even been reelected?

I know that would require a level of self-reflection not normal for progressives. But try.

It's NOT about illegals. It's about military tactics in intimidating voters in a Democratic stronghold. Buy a clue.

Don't need to buy a clue. They're free and all around us.

It IS about illegals. Now, granted since there are no "Red" sanctuary cities we can't actually test your assertion one way or another.

But "military tactics"? And what would those be? It looks like simple crowd control measures to me. And judging from my first hand experiences in similar situations in the late-60's Bay Area, pretty weak tea at that.

military tactics. Tactical gear. Helicopters. Overwhelming force - in a DOMESTIC setting. This ain't a red or a blue thing. This is a military in our own country thing.

Oh, I see you're referring to the apartment raid. I was referring to the street theater in front of the various detention centers, like Portland and Chicago, or the hysterical performances when ICE is attempting to arrest someone on some street (even when the vast majority have warrants).

Sorry.

Yes, I agree, those are military tactics, but they are also SWAT tactics and not unique. The fact that they're not unique is a different problem. (and yes, a serious problem)
