It may sound strange and absurd, but this reminds of similar situations before and during the American Civil War. It shows the importance of having a limited and smaller government.

I agree about the Civil War parallels. I certainly agree about the value of a limited and smaller government. There's seems to be some cultural element as well, though—a readiness to attack your fellow citizens as if you don't care what kind of damage you do.

Readiness to attack is very much about our psychology as regarding tribalist triggering and authoritarian dynamic in the brain. In Europe, civil wars took place as in Bosnia and Moldova (ethnicity, religion) but also in Finland and Ireland (political ideologies, class driven interests). People are ready to kill on basis of different stories, myths, identities. In case of America, Trump has only made things worse by disuniting and dividing people as through racist, collectivist and populist communication
